Scientific and technological exchange round table for the valorisation of olive by-products.

The olive grove is one of the most important crops in Extremadura. Currently, initiatives related to energy efficiency, sustainability, reduction of environmental impact and revaluation of olive by-products are evident in the olive oil industry in Extremadura.

Within the framework of the XLV Viticulture and Oenology Conference and the V Agri-Food Congress of Extremadura, FUNDECYT – Science and Technology Park of Extremadura has organised a “Scientific and technological exchange round table for the valorisation of olive by-products” on 4 May 2023, at the Santa Ana University Centre in Almendralejo.

The meeting has allowed companies and researchers or technology providers to connect with each other in order to identify solutions to the challenges facing the olive oil sector in Extremadura from a scientific and technological base.

During the round table, Mr. Jonathan Delgado, as Scientific-Technical Director of the High Technology Incubator in Bioeconomy and Circular Economy, presented different opportunities for the valorisation of the different olive by-products.

The participants then visited the laboratories and the pre-industrial pilot plant of the Incubator to learn more about its scientific and technological equipment and the possibilities it offers to support business projects related to the valorisation of Extremadura’s natural resources and the by-products and waste from the agri-food industry, in particular those related to the olive grove.
